Penny Stocks Lab Biannual Scholarship Contest


Penny Stocks Lab is proud to announce our biannual scholarship contest. Our fall and spring scholarship contests provide a $1,000 cash prize to the winner of an essay contest. The contest requires students to respond to the prompt written below in a thoughtful, well-crafted short essay of 1,000 words or less. We encourage any student with an interest in finance, penny stocks, investing, or trading to enter for a chance to support their education with our $1,000 scholarship.

Spring 2014: Essay Topic

Our nations’ distrust and contempt for the financial markets, particularly amplified after the subprime mortgage crisis and subsequent recession, has led to increased discourse among legislators about regulating these markets with greater activism. Discuss, in 1,000 words or less, whether you think increased activism is necessary, and if so, what changes you would make.

Spring 2014: Scholarship Details

1. Essays must be submitted electronically as either a Word document or a PDF.
2. Essays must be written solely in English.
3. Each contestant is only allowed to submit one essay.
4. Essays must reflect their own research, writing and original thinking, and not be published elsewhere.
5. Submissions are limited to 1,000 words.
6. Submissions that contain incomplete entry forms will be automatically disqualified.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?
All students currently attending or intending to enroll as a student at an accredited U.S. college or university in the 2014-2015 academic year.

Are international students eligible?
If the international student is currently attending or intending to enroll at an accredited college or university in the U.S. in the 2014-2015 academic year, they are eligible.

When is the deadline for entry?
All essays must be submitted by December 31 for the fall scholarship or by April 30 for the spring scholarship in order to be considered.

When will the winner be chosen?
The winning essay will be determined one week after the scholarship deadline.  At that time, the winner will be notified and requested to provide the required documents to confirm their eligibility.

How are the essays judged?
The essays are evaluated based on their clarity, logic of ideas, creativity, and originality.

 How does the winner receive their scholarship?
The $1000 cash prize is sent by certified check to the winner’s college or university.
